Writing a Letter to Your Girlfriend in Heaven

How to put into words the memories and love you still carry for your girlfriend.

Writing to a girlfriend who has passed away can be one way to make space for the things you still feel. Your relationship mattered, whether or not you were married or how long you were together.

Prompts to help you begin

Tell her about a moment you remember, something that happened today, or a place that still reminds you of her. You could begin with “I wish you could have seen…” or “One thing I never want to forget is…”

A simple example

“I was thinking about you today. I remembered the little things—the way we talked, the things we laughed about, how comforting it was just to be together. I wish we had more time. I am thankful for the time we had.”

You can leave things unfinished

You don't have to turn the letter into a tribute or a lesson. A few honest sentences are enough. And it's okay if all you can write today is “I miss you.”

Write something just for them

You can keep it to yourself, save it, or print it. No account is needed.
